Volume I
Civilization & Public Life
Volume I: Civilization & Public Life explores the forces, institutions, and historical events that have shaped organized human society. Beginning with History and Western Civilization, it traces the rise and fall of civilizations, major political and cultural transformations, influential movements, and the ideas that helped form the modern world. Through a visual and accessible approach, the volume connects pivotal moments of the past with the institutions and assumptions that continue to influence public life today.
The volume then examines how societies organize power and respond to conflict through Politics, War, Totalitarianism & Genocide. It explores political systems and ideologies, revolutions, warfare, authoritarian regimes, mass violence, and the consequences of decisions made by states and leaders. Rather than treating these subjects in isolation, the infographics reveal the connections between political ideas, historical circumstances, military power, human behaviour, and the often profound consequences of institutional failure.
Finally, Economics & Finance, Law & Justice, and Geopolitics explain many of the systems that govern everyday public life and relations between nations. Readers are introduced to markets, money, economic principles, legal institutions, justice, international competition, borders, resources, alliances, and global conflicts. Across 196 infographics in seven subjects, Volume I provides a broad visual foundation for understanding how civilizations develop, how societies govern themselves, why nations cooperate or compete, and how the structures of public life shape the world around us.
